We are really excited to announce this year's QR code treasure hunt.
On Saturday June 8th between 10:00 am and 4:00pm at the Cedar Hills Festival located at Heritage Park, there will be a LOCKED TREASURE CHEST full of candy and prizes for the whole family to enjoy.
How do you open the Treasure chest? There will be a lock that will require 5 letters and/or numbers to open it and here is how you get them....

Each location is going to be on the same trail with you starting at the mouth of American Fork Canyon and Ending at Sunset Park. (You may also start at Sunset Park and end at the mouth of the canyon.)
Along the way you will find 5 red X's (within 3 feet of the trail) marking the spot of the location you will find the container with the QR code which when scanned will simply reveal a number or letter.  Begin searching in that area and you will find the treasure box within 25 feet of the red X.

CEDAR HILLS FAMILY FESTIVAL 2013 GEOCACHING!

CEDAR HILLS 2013 FAMILY FESTIVAL GEOCACHING!!!

It's that wonderful time of year again here in Cedar Hills when we get to invite family and friends over to show off the amazing celebration taking place in our great city! As a resident here this is my favorite week of the summer and anticipate the celebration once again getting bigger and better than the year before.
It is such fun here as we get to participate in many events that strengthen our families and bring us closer to one another as fellow residence.
This is one of the reasons why I personally volunteer each year to provide the residence and their families with the opportunity to get outside and explore this city in search of a "lost treasure"

This year is going to be great fun as each day will provide a new opportunity to get out and scour the city for the "Daily Family Festival Geocache.

This year the locations will focus on the amazing Trail Systems that we have in our city, and display their amazing beauty along the way.

The first location will be released June 3rd 8:30 AM via this blog.

You can bookmark this site or you can also find a link on the cities website

GOLDEN EGG 2013 INFORMATION!

Cedar Hills City GOLDEN EGG 2013!!!

This is the place for all the information you will need for this years GOLDEN EGG.
This year we have made it possible for everyone to receive a prize for finding the golden eggs. Each person that completes the hunt will get a treat. So keep in mind it is not a race. We have tried to make it possible for each family to begin the hunt on their own time and around their personal schedule.
The golden eggs will be available to be found from 4:00-8:00 pm Friday March 29th
There will be 3 Golden eggs at three different locations throughout the city.
The first coordinates released on the website will lead to the first egg. That egg will contain inside it the location to the second and that to the third. You will collect a SINGLE (1) paper "golden egg" at each location which are numbered 1-3. The third egg will then reveal the location to bring your 3 eggs to receive your prizes. Also for those who complete the hunt you will be able to enter your names into a drawing for additional prizes, which may include....Free food at the Grill, gift certificates, free golf, buckets of range balls, or even a family pass to this years Family Festival.

The Coordinates for the first EGG will be announced on this blog via a link on the Cedar Hills City website. Just Click on it and the info you need will be here!

Here are a few details you will need to know for this years hunt.

In addition to this and to add another element of fun we are providing you with a "QR code" along with each set of coordinates that you can scan with your smartphone camera or wireless ipad using a QR scanner app, and have it instantly provide you the next location.

Cedar Hills City GOLDEN EGG!!!

Welcome to the official site of all things Cedar Hills Geocaching related.
Whether it is the Annual Family Festival Geocaching event, or the Annual Easter "Golden Egg" event you will find the details you need here.

I have been doing Geocaching for 3 years now and have come to find that it is a great family bonding opportunity. I have volunteered to the city to head up these activities for our residence in hopes that you to will have some of the great experiences I've had with my 2 girls looking for "lost treasure" in the world around them.

Geocaching is a free real-world outdoor treasure hunt. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using a smartphone or GPS and can then share their experiences online. (Visit www.Geocaching.com for more info) There are 2,017,957 active geocaches and over 5 million geocachers worldwide. Geocaches can be found all over the world. It is common for geocachers to hide caches in locations that are important to them, reflecting a special interest or skill of the cache owner. These locations can be quite diverse. They may be at your local park, at the end of a long hike, underwater, on the side of a city street, the international space station or the bottom of the sea.

To geocache you need to be a member of the geocaching website (free), but we all aren't or don't want to create a profile. So I've added a few twists to make it easy for the entire family to enjoy without a membership. Hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed putting it together.
Now get out there and find that treasure!
